Pre-Assessment
Am I a candidate
If you decide that DeepTMS is an option for you, we will schedule an appointment with our psychiatrist. Our doctor will determine if you are a candidate for TMS and design a treatment program tailored to your needs.
First Appointment
Tailoring your therapy
As every client’s anatomy is unique, the intensity of the magnetic stimulation to reactivate the nerve cells will be tailored to that individual. Consequently, doctor and practitioner will spend more time on the first treatment session determining and calibrating the exact magnetic strength required for your future sessions.
Treatment
The new me
Treatment sessions will be provided in a private room, sitting in a comfortable chair, awake and alert for a 20 minute DeepTMS session.
When the treatment session is complete, the patient is on their way immediately. All patients can drive themselves to and from treatment with no side-effects.
F.A.Q.
What is Deep TMS?
Deep TMS is a procedure that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate neural networks in targeted areas of the brain involved in mood regulation and found to be underactive in a person with depression.
What does a procedure look like?
Treatment involves sitting comfortably in a chair and wearing a helmet containing a patented Brainsway H-Coil for approximately 20 minutes. Patients will experience a light tapping sensation on their scalp during treatment. Deep TMS is a noninvasive procedure that allows a patient to catch up on reading, social media or watch tv during their session.
How long does a procedure take?
Deep TMS sessions are usually 20 minutes in duration. As the treatment is non-invasive, once the session is over, you can drive yourself home, back to work and go about your daily routine.
Does Deep TMS treatment hurt?
Deep TMS is a painless procedure performed while patients are awake and requires no anesthesia. There could be some mild scalp discomfort that will subside after the first week of treatment.
Are there any side effects to Deep TMS treatment?
Deep TMS treatment has been proven as safe and effective, and has no known systemic side effects and no evidence that TMS can cause brain tumors, memory loss, or decline in concentration.
What is the success rate of Deep TMS?
ReNu’s Deep TMS has a success rate above 80%, meaning that the vast majority of our clients suffering treatment resistant depression find significant relief after treatment. Up to 50% of people experience complete remission, meaning that the symptoms of depression are absent after just one course of treatment.
Does my health insurance cover TMS therapy cost?
TMS treatment is covered by almost all health insurance providers.
ReNu will assist you with determination if deductibles and patient copays are required in your insurance plan. If further financial assistance is required, the medical credit card payment plan option – Care Credit, is available through ReNu.

Will I need to stop my medications or therapy while I’m being treated?
Deep TMS, as a non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical treatment for depression and anxiety, there is little likelihood of TMS negatively interfering with any medications you presently take. The option to continue using your prescribed medications will be discussed with your ReNu medical provider prior to starting TMS treatment.
Do I make a good candidate for Deep TMS?
TMS is currently indicated for adult patients (18 years old and above) with a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder who have not responded well to antidepressants in the current episode. To determine if you are a good candidate for Deep TMS, take ReNu’s Self-Assessment and find out!
